Coping with Trauma

99 Coping Skills Poster: Taking care of yourself after a traumatic event is essential for healing spiritually, emotionally, and physically. There are several types of coping skill ideas to choose from. Some coping skills work as a distraction. An example of a coping skill used for the purpose of distracting would be watching a movie. Other coping skills involve reaching out for support by talking with a friend or engaging in physical activity. Yoga is one type of physical activity. Finally, coping skills can be emotions or thoughts, such as using self talk or positive affirmations and/or humor. Positive affirmations (i.e. self talk) and humor act as a buffer from those negative thoughts or feelings we have when coping with trauma. At the beginning of this post, you will find a list of 99 coping skill ideas to use. Please note that this list is not comprehensive, as there are many types of coping skill ideas not listed here. For more ideas, contact us via email at cmsac@cmsac.org.
