Central MN Sexual Assault Center

Central MN Sexual Assault Center
CMSAC is seeking a countertop single or double electric burner for a client who has recently relocated and is working to establish a safe and stable living environment. We rely on donations from community members for our walk-in's. We see an increase in walk-in's during the warmer months, and we are in need of shampoo, conditioner, backpacks, combs, and hairbrushes. We are grateful to be a part of such a gracious community! Items can be dopped off at 15 Riverside Drive NE St. Cloud, MN 56304. Support survivors. Grab a pint. πŸΊπŸ’™ Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free β€” two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It's the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. We will be closed today for staff development. Please call our crisis line to speak with an advocate 320-251-4357. This week, our staff Bri had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for the World Without Exploitation @worldweus Conference on human trafficking and exploitation. Speakers at the conference included Gail Dines & Mandy Sanchez from Culture Reframed, Aaron Parnas, survivors of Jeffrey Epstein, Yasmin Vafa with Rights4Girls, Melanie Thompson with Coalition Against Trafficking in Women International, and many more! Speakers shared innovative ideas on combating trafficking and exploitation in their communities in addition to the legislative wins that have been happening all around the country. πŸ’š It's important to learn the realities of what trafficking looks like in our communities. Typically, there are no chains, cages, or kidnapping. Trafficking looks like threats, false promises, dependency, or emotional pressure that make it difficult to leave. Recognizing that coercion can be subtle is essential to understanding how trafficking really happens and how we can better identify and respond to it. Day 2 of Advocacy Days. We were in congressional meetings all day and had powerful and important conversations. We had a mighty group representing Minnesota!! The first day of Advocacy Days in D.C has been an absolute success. What an amazing experience to stand next to our partners and push for policy change, advocacy, and pushing for funding that victim/survivors deserve! #advocacydays
